'Nigel Barden's Drivetime Dishes' on Simply Good Food TV


I'm hugely excited to be hosting a new TV series 'Nigel Barden's Drivetime Dishes' on Simply Good Food TV, the first two of which are available now on Amazon Prime Video.  These are the first of 6 weekly shows, where I am showcasing a range of food & drink from artisan producers, while test-driving recipes from some favourite chefs.

In the first episode I'm cooking up an Espresso Rubbed Tomahawk Steak dish from The Great Taste Awards book 'Food Stories'.  My guest is Chef Jon Fell, of The Green Room Restaurant, Rosehill Theatre, Whitehaven, & the excellent Tomahawk steak is from Jo & Tim Budden's Higher Hacknell Farm in Burrington, Devon & I've used lashings of Duncan Farrington's Northamptonshire Mellow Yellow Rapeseed Oil. The rub uses Great Taste Award winning Coaltown coffee from Scott & Gordon James of Ammanford, Carmarthenshire. I'm also tasting Angry Wasp cider from the Cambridge Cider Co. & my soft drink is a Sparkling Rhubarb & Apple, from Cawston Press.

In the second episode, I’m cooking Turkey Schnitzel with Lemon & Caper Butter from Tom Kerridge’s ‘Dopamine Diet’ cookbook. My guest is chef & author Peter Sidwell, who is the founder of Simply Good Food TV & the Keswick Cookery School. The turkey fillet is from Paul Kelly’s award winning Kelly Bronze free-range turkeys, based at Springate Farm in Danbury, Essex. I’m tasting alongside an Austrian white wine, Grüner Veltliner Weinviertel Baumgartner, from Tanners Wine Merchants, based in Shrewsbury since 1842. My soft drink is a drinking vinegar, known as a ‘shrub’, & it’s Nonsuch Blackcurrant & Juniper from Aspall in Stowmarket, Suffolk, birthed by Henry Chevalier Guild of the Aspall cider family.

Episode 3 is about to be broadcast, featuring Diana Henry’s Flourless Chocolate Cake with Whisky Cream, from her excellent tome ‘Simple - effortless food, big flavours’. I’m helped out in the kitchen by Vhari Russell, one of the founders of Simply Good Food TV, who I’ve made this series with. It’s been a lot of fun, as is Vhari.
